Congratulations Holly, on
becoming a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher!
Iyengar Yoga is based on the teachings of Sri B.K.S. Iyengar of Pune, India. Mr. Iyengar, or “Guruji” as he is affectionately known to his students, has been studying yoga for over 70 years and is considered the world’s foremost authority on its practice and teachings. At 86 years old, he continues his daily practice and oversees the institute in India (RIMYI) where his daughter, Geeta Iyengar and son, Prashant Iyengar, currently teach and train teachers. He is also very involved in the certification process of Iyengar Yoga teachers throughout the world. Certified teachers of Iyengar Yoga have completed many years of serious personal practice and teacher training with senior teachers in the method. Iyengar Yoga incorporates the teachings of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, an ancient treatise, into the eight-fold path of yoga (ashta-anga yoga).

Iyengar Yoga is characterized by:
- An attention to correct alignment of the physical body to correct imbalances and bring strength, flexibility, and stamina to the body and mind.
- The safe and systematic building up of it’s students from beginners through advanced practitioners by moving them through a progression of poses.
- Individual correction and adjustments based on each student’s unique needs using language, props, and modifications.
- The incorporation of yoga philosophy into it’s physical practice.
- The teaching of yoga’s relevance to our daily lives.
