“The light that Yoga sheds on life is something special.
It is transformative.
It does not just change the way we see things;
It changes the person who sees.”
-Yogacharya BKS Iyengar
“Understand, I am always trying to figure out
what the soul is, and where hidden, and what shape…”
-Mary Oliver, poet
Program Description
This program is designed for students wishing to delve deeper into the study of Yoga. Our objectives are:
- to organize our home practice so it is purposeful and methodical, allowing it to grow deep roots and bear fruit.
- to study the philosophy of yoga and cultivate stability, maturity and clarity in our lives.
The information presented in this program will be done in a practical manner. Theoretical knowledge will be given to the students in a “hands-on” learning environment. In the morning, we will focus on the asanas from the Introductory syllabi but will include poses from higher levels. During our practice, we will hone our self-observation and correction skills and learn the effective use of props for that particular family of poses. Afternoons will focus on philosophy topics as taught in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, bringing depth and authenticity to our studies. Students will be given at home reading and practice assignments designed to build the firm foundation of their sadhana (practice).
This program will have two semesters. All classes are held on a Sunday and students should bring a lunch with them to eat after the morning asana class, during the afternoon philosophy discussion.
